Ethiopia 2003: A WFP monitor checks the food supply

02/05/2003

A WFP monitor checks the food supply at a village warehouse. This is CSB (corn-soya) donated by Japan. The United States is the most important food donor to Ethiopia. A village council in cooperation with WFP, non-governmental organizations, and the Ethiopian Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Commission will select the beneficiaries. Thus far, foreign aid has prevented wide-spread famine as a result of the drought in Ethiopia, but the number of needy people grows monthly as families exhaust their meager reserves of food and money.
