“I’m Eric Schwartz, president of Refugees International and I want to comment on the graphic image now circulating of a Salvadoran father and daughter who drowned while trying to cross into the United States from Mexico. Make no mistake: these deaths of people effectively prevented by President Trump from seeking asylum in safety and dignity, and forced into dangerous border crossings, these deaths are the inevitable result of inhumane and unconscionable policies. We join the voices of so many calling for the meaningful provision of asylum and safety, so that pictures like the one circulating online need never be taken again.”
