Stop Tigray Famine
Since November 2020, civil war in northern Ethiopia has spiraled into a living nightmare. Parties to the conflict have committed unspeakable crimes. Millions of civilians are facing widespread displacement. And people are dying of starvation amid a man-made famine—the region’s second in less than 40 years. The threat of full-scale civil war now hangs over the country.
Focus on Famine
In July 2022, the U.S. government declared that 900,000 people in the northern Ethiopian region of Tigray were experiencing famine, with millions more on the brink. Since then, the conflict has spread, a government blockade has left people cut off from the world, and humanitarians are largely unable to reach those in need. One must assume the number of people living in famine may now be far higher.
Refugees International is calling for an immediate ceasefire, unfettered humanitarian access, and a solution to famine that has impacted Tigray.
