Advocacy for Yemen
What is Happening?
The humanitarian crisis in Yemen has produced unprecedented suffering. Renewed fighting between the U.S.-led coalition and the Houthis as an extension of the Gaza war have amplified the existing suffering of Yemenis. 4 million Yemenis are displaced, 80 percent of whom are women and children. Over 20 million need urgent humanitarian assistance. Years of fighting and the blockade of major ports have accelerated economic collapse and exacerbated inflation, unemployment, poverty, and the shortage of basic goods and services. While the existing ceasefire between Saudi Arabia and Yemen continues to hold, millions struggle to put food on the table, and malnutrition is widespread. Meanwhile, aid organizations face tremendous obstacles reaching people in need.
What Must Be Done?
Unimpeded humanitarian access is critical to ensure aid can reach Yemenis in dire need of aid. Refugees International is calling for significant international assistance and support to tackle Yemen’s multifaceted and acute crisis.
